Discrepancy noted – The production / exporting of ammonia from Trinidad is substantial, and NOT calculated on the World Integrated Trade Solution (WITS) database.
The question is really, how are fertilizer prices calculated? The seemingly official worldbank.org aggregation of trade data has omitted Trinidad as an exporter of ammonia. Ammonia is the main constituent of nitrogen fertilizers that are responsible for for over 50% of all food production worldwide.
This is obviously implying price manipulation at the top tier.\]

Ammonia is produced using natural gas by reacting methane with water. Saudi Arabia recently stopped processing natural gas from oil production in favor of free standing natural gas production fields. Saudi Arabia however, does not import or export natural gas.
Let’s check the other exportable fertilizers in the database….
- Nitrogen (ammonia)
- Ammonia
